WAVENEY entertained South Walsham on Saturday and continued their push for promotion, despite not being at their best. The hard work rate, high defensive line and eager linesman of the opponents ensured that most early Waveney attacks fizzled into nothing. Quality passes were at a premium for the opening period, as the home side failed to match the opposition in terms of making space and wanting the ball. But it was the home side who scored first; Scarff doing well to beat the offside trap, rounding the keeper to slot home. Waveney were much improved for the second half, displaying a better attitude. The usual resolute defensive performance from Griggs, Salmon, Ballard and Gamble allowed the forward players more opportunity to drive at their spirited opponents. Gamble especially was foraging forward at every opportunity and it was he who initiated the second goal. A crisp ball into Barker was turned round the corner finding Aldis in space. With no obvious pass on, the striker decided to 'go it alone', stepping past his marker and drilling the ball low into the far corner. The game was much easier after the home side had doubled their lead, and yet again Scarff was working tirelessly to create chances for his teammates. Walsham offered very little as a goal threat and any slight chance that did come their way, Einecker was on hand to foil; even if his nose did pay the price. The third and final goal arrived five minutes before the end of time. Evans, impressive as a substitute, clipped a delicate ball to Barker. Skipping past his opponent, the ball was then squared to Griggs to find the top corner and secure Waveney's sixth successive win. Simpson's Skoda MoM: Andrew Ballard.

Notley's Lowestoft and District League Norton 10, Corton White Horse Seltic 2

NORTON returned to winning ways by romping to a 10-2 win against bottom side Corton White Horse Seltic. Norton dominated the game from start to finish but only had a 2-0 margin in the first half thanks to, two quality goals from Rory Spinks and Dan Blewitt. The second half saw another eight goals with Steven Hak netting three, Rory Spinks a further two and individual strikes from Andy Green, Chris Smith and Danny Green. The Read Bros MoM: Danny Green.

Waveney A 1, Norton Reserves 0

NORTON Reserves slipped to a single goal defeat against Waveney A in their crucial relegation encounter. The defeat leaves Norton seven points adrift of safety with a game in hand.

Blundeston Magpies 3, Barsham 0

BOTH teams started very confidently, Barsham adapted better to the heavy conditions and therefore had the best of the possession but found the Magpies back four on top form with the result that they seldom threatened the Magpies goal. Gradually Magpies, after weathering the storm, began to get a foothold in the game and began testing the Barsham keeper. Chong and Bracey, ably supported by the impressive Ash Smith and Gav Rawlings, began to dominate the Barsham pacy forwards which brought Jarvis, who was having another very good game, and England into play and they began getting their passes to wingers Owen Smith and Crowe who both gave their full backs a hard time. With five minutes of the first half left Mawford and Martin combined well after good work from Jarvis, which left Martin clear to put Magpies one up. Burrell came on for the injured Owen Smith at half time and the second half was much more even with both teams battling hard to get the important next goal. Macnamara had to make a couple of telling saves before Chong, making a good tackle and running forward, passed the ball to England who found Jarvis who chipped it over the last defender giving Martin a one on one with the keeper to put Magpies 2-0 up. Barsham pushed more players up front but this allowed Magpies to have more of the attacking, which resulted in Mawford - after good play from Jarvis - running down the left to cut inside, taking on the keeper and cleverly sent him the wrong way leaving him an open goal to slot home and to make sure Magpies kept up their recent run of good results.

Lowestoft Sunday League Stanford Arms 1, Waveney Hearts Reserves 4

SUNDAY League Division three champions elect, Stanford Arms, suffered their first league defeat of the season at a blustery Dip Farm to a youthful Waveney Hearts Reserves side. In the early stages, the hosts looked dangerous with a strong wind at their backs. However, after seven minutes Hearts scored the opening goal when a good pass from Sam Allen picked out Jamie Pells, who scored with an angled shot from eight yards. The more experienced hosts then began to assert themselves with ex-Hearts player Carl Catchpole influential in midfield. On 27 minutes, another ex-Hearts player, Ben Robinson, lobbed Hearts keeper Tom Brice for the equaliser. This further encouraged the hosts and asserted pressure on the Hearts back four, but they withstood this pressure with 16-year-old centre backs Josh Armes and Jamie Houghton resisting most attacks. In the second half, Hearts kicked with the wind and deservedly took the lead on the hour when Paul Hunter put in strike partner Jamie Pells, who was fouled in the box and Josh Armes stroked home the resultant penalty. Three minutes later, Hearts made it 3-1 when Sam Allen fed Jamie Pells, who laid the ball inside to Joel Haverson, who dummied the ball. Paul Hunter then gained possession laying the ball back to Haverson, who scored from ten yards. On 74 minutes, Hearts forced an excellent save out of the Stanford keeper. However, from the resultant corner, Sam Allen curled the flag kick directly into the net to complete a comfortable 4-1 victory which their overall passing football richly deserved. Blundeston Plough FC 3, Gunton 5

PLOUGH began the game brightly, with A Smith influential. The full back was instrumental in the opening goal, a classy finish by Sivraj. A second soon followed as a clever flick by skipper Brooks allowed Mawford to tap in. However, Gunton replied with three quick goals, despite heroic defending. Two more goals for Gunton gave them a comfortable lead but Plough kept working hard, Smith's good play down the wing supporting a stellar run by Kirby allowed England to score an incredible 40-yarder. Hearts Of Oak 3, Oulton Athletic 3

SUNDAY'S gusty conditions turned this fixture in to the proverbial game of two halves. Oulton, playing with the wind, scored first when a long kick from stand-in keeper Graham Doggit cleared the home-side's defence before being netted by Dean Newman. The second was headed home by Newman from a superb cross by strike partner Paul Buckenham. Before half-time winger Danny Eyles played through Buckenham who calmly added Athletic's third. The second half gave the home side the advantage of playing with the wind and they soon made it count, scoring a header from a long ball. Oak's second came from a corner, the ball headed home by an unmarked player. The equaliser was scored with a well struck shot from the edge of the box which gave the keeper no chance. Over the ninety minutes Graham Reeve stood out for Oulton. This was the second 3-3 draw between the clubs this season with the Hearts team coming from behind both times. Overall however a draw was probably fair on both occasions.
