AFTER action on the pitch was called off for all sides at the weekend, attention turned to the festive season this week with two special events at the Walmer Road clubhouse.

And hopefully returning to the pitch twice in the next few days, seventh-placed K&P will be aiming for some late Christmas cheer as some spicy seasonal treats are on the menu.

With the weather halting K&P's trip to Harwich and Parkeston last Saturday - as all Ridgeons League matches were postponed - The Royals will be aiming to firstly bounce back on Boxing Day.

There will be a late festive treat as the eagerly-awaited first north Suffolk derby of the season takes place. Former player/coach Carl Chenery brings his third-placed Leiston side to town (noon).

This is quickly followed on Monday, December 28 as Jon Reynolds and Stewart Larter's men entertain Norwich United at Walmer Road.

'Please come along and support the Royals in these top-of-the-table clashes - with all children under the age of 12 to be admitted free,' the Royal David said.

On Monday this week, organisers hailed a special Christmas dinner that had been set up especially for sponsors and officials at the clubhouse as 'brilliant.'

Norwich City legend Bryan Gunn was welcomed to K&P as he teamed up with the first-team managerial duo of Reynolds and Larter and chairman Bob Jenkerson for what was a superb afternoon of entertainment.

'A splendid meal was served by the celebrity television chef Frank Pontais, and this was followed by big TV screen horse racing and hot mince pies in the late afternoon,' The Royal David said. 'Over 60 people attended and all helped boost our club coffers.'

On Tuesday a free buffet and drinks at reduced prices were on offer in the clubhouse as a special 'thank you' to all supporters.

'Our Young Royals Club is now taking shape and we will launch this new venture in early February in conjunction with the Lowestoft Journal,' The Royal David said. 'Our first ever club mascot will also make its appearance at this launch, and we will hold a competition for our supporters to name it!'

On behalf of the chairman and all Kirkley officials, K&P would like to thank their sponsors, the club managers and staff, the players and coaches, the dads and mums of their 36 youth teams and the many supporters, and wish you all a safe and happy Christmas and a rewarding and healthy New Year.
