KIRKLEY & PAKEFIELD FC NOTES

BACK to back defeats in Cambridgeshire have jeopardised K&P's chances of a top three finish in the Ridgeons Premier League.

But despite their latest 3-1 away defeat at the Fen Tigers of Wisbech last Saturday, which the management duo of Jon Reynolds and Stewart Larter described as “disappointing,” K&P are set for their highest-ever league finish in a season, which has also seen them secure their best-ever cup runs.

And it is still all to play for, as The Royals have three “massive” league games ahead of them in the next eight days - prior to the eagerly-awaited Ridgeons League Cup Final with Needham Market on May 3.

After falling two sloppy goals behind in the first 10 minutes, even a firecracker of a penalty from keeper Robert Woodcock failed to galvanise The Royal troops as they eventually lost 3-1.

Meanwhile, the Royal Reserves slaughtered Reepham 5-0 on Saturday with two goals from striker Rory French and a goal apiece for Paul Highfield, Leon Harewood and Darren Glynn - the latter coming direct from a corner.

A win against lowly Scole next Tuesday, April 27 at Walmer Road is likely to see the team promoted into senior football and a place in the Anglian Combination premier division.

“The game starts at 7.45pm next week, so let's get behind Huggy (manager James Hutchinson) and the boys to realise this dream!”

On Saturday the KP Royals are on a revenge mission as they look to make up for their past two league defeats and the “worst performance of the season” in their earlier season defeat to tomorrow's opponents Mildenhall, while the B team are the only side in action tomorrow at Walmer Road entertaining Norman Warrior, KO 2.30pm.

“Off the field, we have a final pre match meal of this season on Saturday, May 1, commencing at 12.30pm. Cost is £15 per person and this is open to sponsors, supporters and wives - prior to the game against Ely City,” a club spokesman said,

“If you wish to attend the meal, please telephone 01502 741588.”
