KIRKLEY and Pakefield progressed to the second round of the Ridgeons League Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 win against Walsham-le-Willows last night.

Adam Sivell popped up to score the only goal in a tight game as K&P progressed to the second round of the cup for the first time ever.

Nick Shorten made two changes for the tie, bringing in debutant Martyn Magee and Adam Sivell. Two organised defences ensured that goal-mouth chances were at a premium in the first half, but K&P showed their attacking intentions at half time when midfielder Taunton was replaced with striker Bemmant.

Soon the team were causing Walsham-le-Willows more problems and on 67 minutes the deadlock was broken as a shot from Nathan Stone was parried into the path of Adam Sivell, who hooked the ball into the open goal.

A late surge from Walsham required stout defending from Jefford, Tatham, Cole and De Coteau, but K&P held out for a hard-fought 1-0 win.
