IN front of more than 200 fans this north Suffolk derby saw Leiston probably just shade the opening period.

However Kirkley had the chance to take the lead when a clumsy tackle in the box by new signing Head gave them a penalty on 15 minutes. But the shot was smacked against Stannard's left-hand post.

On the half hour mark an unbelievable reaction save from debutant Woodcock in the Kirkley goal kept out a close-range Bramble effort. Leiston continued to apply the pressure with a series of set pieces and corners but the visitors held firm.

Leiston started the second half on top although the impressive Lee Gilman fired over when well placed for the visitors. A long clearance by Leiston keeper Stannard on 55 minutes saw Tes Bramble fire just wide under pressure and it was Bramble who put the home side 1-0 up after 68 minutes when he followed up from close range after Head's header had been clawed out by Woodcock.

In the final seconds Leiston substitute Sillett ran clear through on goal only to be brought down by the Kirkley keeper who saw red. Boardley's resultant free kick was saved as Leiston just edged a hard fought game 1-0.
