A NEW outfield player could be settling in at Portman Road next week.

Fresh from recruiting Bosnian keeper Asmir Begovic on loan from Portsmouth on Thursday, Town boss Roy Keane is now channelling his energies into recruiting at least one more loan player over the next few days.

“We're talking to one or two players with regards loans,” revealed Keane.

“There are one or two areas where we're trying. I had a conversation with a manager last night, and I think we could be near a deal for a player to come here over the next few days.”

Although he would not specify the position of Town's latest target, Keane has hinted in the past that he is hoping to strengthen his centre-half department.

Meanwhile, there have been no loan approaches for any of Town's players, following the news that Owen Garvan had turned down a chance to sign for Colchester United at the start of the month.

Garvan has not featured in Town's squad since the 2-0 defeat at West Brom on August 22, which he was substituted at half-time.

But the Dubliner did enjoy the accolade of skippering the Republic of Ireland Under-21s in their games against Georgia and Switzerland over the last week.

Referring to the 1-1 draw against the Swiss, during which Garvan scored, Keane commented: “Owen Garven played OK, though I wouldn't say he was excellent.

“I watched the game myself. Owen is more than capable of putting the ball in the back of the net. And it was nice for him to captain the side as well.

“The stories that I have not spoken to him are not true. I spoke to him only yesterday! He's still in my plans, as are all my players,” added Keane.
