Kensington Gardens celebrating after claiming first win of season in Lowestoft League

Pride of place this week for Kensington Gardens must go to David Crisp’s Lowestoft & District team who after 10 defeats in a row won their first game when beating Blundeston.

The block of C Smith, R Bond and M Roberts led the way while the other winning block was D Sculfor, H Bond and F Helsdon.

The Sunshine League team got back to winning ways with a fine 59-57 (5-1) success in a game which went into the final ends. The winning blocks for the Gardens were A Muffett, F Brown and M Roberts (22-21) and T Court, H Bond and R Bond (18-16).

The BE Triples League team maintained their challenge in Division two with a 72-61 (5½-1½) win over Waveney. Winning blocks were T Court, R Bond and G Marshall (27-5) and B Saunders and A Lyne and E Le Grice (20-16) while D Sculfor, B Duncan and M Evans drew 15-15.

The Benacre League team lost 94-55 (6-1) at Bungay. The Gardens’ lone point came from C Smith, F Helsdon and T Court who won 18-16.

Lowestoft Railway Gold returned to winning ways with a 5-1 home win over Waveney. Railway won on two of the three rinks for overall shots result (55-53). Top rink y was G&T Harvey and S Eriera (28-15).

Railway Gold then entertained high-flying Gorleston Cliff, losing the match 45-60 (1½-4½pts). Best rink for Railway was P Jarvis and G Rose who won 15-13.

In Suffolk (BE) Triples B League, Railway played Bungay Town B at home. They won on two rinks to secure an overall victory of 73-70 (5-2). Top block for Railway was R Davis, T Harvey and B Earles who won 28-8.

Oulton Broad played Thurlton in the Benacre League and lost 43-107 (0-7).

Playing at Bungay in the Bowls England League Broad were losing 25-37 at 10 ends. Only P Calvert, R Graham, M Last were ahead at that stage and they went to win 21-15. Broad improved over the final ends, A Buck, B Chapman, R Goddard got two fours to win 18-14 helping Broad get two valuable points (62-66, 2-5).

At Lound in the Lothingland League P Calvert, J Manning, M Last won 20-16 and B Smith, R Newman, L Moore won 22-1 in a 72-66 (5-2) success.

Due to increased entries the indoor league programme at Browston Hall will start at the earlier than usual date of September 5 (details avaliable by ringing 01493 667591).
