Kirkley & Pakefield 1 Haverhill Rovers 0: Russell’s early penalty seals points for Royals

Kirkley & Pakefield claimed a narrow win in their penultimate home game of the season at a murky and rainy Walmer Road.
An early goalmouth melee saw Kyle Haylock shoot wide and then Kaiden Goldspink fought well to win the ball from the keeper. He put in a fine shot which was cleared off the line and this was picked up by Miguel Lopez who was fouled for a penalty.
Cameron Russell stepped up to hit a well-struck shot wide of the keeper into the bottom left hand corner for an eighth minute lead for the Royals.
With the opposition showing very little the home team had a few good chances with all going wide or high. Haverhill had probably their best chance on 65 minutes with a free-kick on the edge of the area - Sam Bennett hit the kick into the wall and from the rebound shot wide.
On 70 minutes Jordan Haverson instigated a good move with some fine skills passing wide to Lopez and his pass to Haylock saw his shot skim the bar with the keeper beaten.
