Both teams were left idle the previous Saturday due to stormy weather and high winds and cold greeted them both at the weekend to make it uncomfortable for good football.

Clacton started brightly and had a few early chances, Liam Harvey-Cooper then had a one-on-one with the away keeper saved while on 20 minutes a good shot from the away team brought a fine one-handed save from Adam Rix.

On 25 minutes the Royals opened the scoring with a superb 25 yard volley by Macauley Holt. In the 38th minute a fine move started by Haylock saw good pass to Baker and then Haverson before Holt scored his second of the afternoon. Minutes later he almost converted for a hat-trick, only to be cleared on the line.

Herbert had a good header go just wide before a super pass by Baker found Harvey-Cooper to slot home for the third.

The second half was barely two minutes old when a good Haylock turn and shot was stopped on the line with an outstretched defender’s leg.

The match from here on in brought continued attacking from the home team with Baker missing two easy chances. Harvey-Cooper was unlucky on at least four occasions bringing the best out of away keeper Luke Avenell each time to keep the score down.

Herbert again went close with a header before, on 85 minutes, substitute Lee Will saw his delicate shot from 20 yards beat the keeper after good work down the left side by Wall and Harvey-Cooper.

The Royals should probably should probably have converted more of their chance but it was still a good win. Holt was East Point Sports man-of-the-match.

This Saturday Kirkley & Pakefield travel to Walsham-le-Willows for a rearranged league match (3pm).

The Thurlow Nunn Youth League is now back in full swing and the AFC Royals travel to Bungay Town next Wednesday (7.45pm). The following night sees K&P U18s at Walmer Road (7.45pm) against Beccles Town.
