Last Saturday's Thurlow Nunn Premier Division League match saw Kirkley & Pakefield pick up a useful point at the impressive Glassworld Stadium, home of Histon Town.
The past decade has seen Histon on a rollercoaster ride, quickly moving up the leagues and then back again to where they started in the ECL.
The Royals had Hayden Rogers back in goal, Lewis Hammond replaced the unavailable Miguel Lopez and Gary Williams came in for Michael Tacon who reverted to the bench.
Looking to put in an improved performance after three home defeats the Royals started brightly although Rogers needed to make a brilliant save to keep the scores level.
A 20 yard Histon shot was then touched over the bar and the following corner resulted in Lee Smith heading in for the opening goal on the 14th minute.
In the 28th minute Williams produced some good work on the right and his centre was beautifully headed in by Jordan Haverson for the equaliser. Then, on 40 minutes Liam Harvey-Cooper received a nasty looking knee injury which needed lengthy treatment, after a brief return he had to be replaced, with young Dylan Blades coming on.
The second half started disastrously for the Royals who conceded in the opening minute with Smith again the scorer.
On 65 minutes Tacon replaced Williams who had a good game and the away team continued to play good football and press with a Baker turn and shot just over.
On 75 minutes great work down the left by Haylock saw his centre picked up by 16-year-old Dylan Blades who turned and shot in from 12 yards to score his first senior league goal, to level the scores at 2-2.
In a very entertaining and sporting match more good work by Haylock saw a Baker shot skim the post and then Rogers kept the home team at bay at the other end. With both keepers in good form the match ended even with a highly impressive team performance from the Royals after their dismal start to the season earning them their first point.
