Kirkley & Pakefield take a point from high-flying Newmarket

For their last away match of the season Kirkley & Pakefield made the trip to high-flying Newmarket Town to play at their splendid all-weather arena and returned home with an excellent point.
The first chance of the game fell to the Royals’ Kyle Haylock who saw his shot saved by Ben Nower in the home goal.
Away keeper Luis Tibbles was brought into action after five minutes, making a good save for a corner.
The 13th minute proved lucky for the Royals after a good solo run by Jordan Haverson saw his effort put out. The resulting corner produced a barrage of shots on the home goal before centre back Jack Herbert finally slammed the ball in for a 1-0 lead.
Newmarket, who needed a win to stay in the hunt for a third placed finish, got back on level terms in the 26th minute. Jamie Thurlbourne sent in a powerful shot from almost 25 yards which keeper Tibbles saved but centre back Charlie Bowen followed up to score from close in.
In the 42nd minute Nathan lock Stone went on a good run from the halfway line, beating defenders on the way, but with a goal looking on his shot went just wide.
This was a very entertaining match, with both teams playing good passing football, and early in the second half a good turn and shot by young Haylock was just wide of the post. Three minutes later Stone saw his 25-yard shot go just wide.
On 64 minutes Haylock, having his best game for the senior team, went on a fine run but Stone shot wide again and then King lobbed the keeper, only to see his effort graze the bar.
King finally had the ball in the net in the 87th minute but the assistant ruled him offside and then in the last few minutes away keeper Tibbles made two fantastic saves.
These welcome stops ensured the Royals got a well-deserved share of the points after one of their best performances of the season against a very good team.
