AFTER snow and rain led to postponements galore recently, the prospects of play looked promising for K&P last Saturday.
A pitch inspection was passed on Saturday morning, with Ely City making the 180-mile trip to town for the eagerly-awaited Ridgeons League encounter but 50 minutes before kick off, with the players all out on the pitch warming up, the officials called the game off.
However, the young Royals did manage to take to the field for a full 90 minutes on Tuesday evening as youth team striker Kyle Baker hit a brace for the first team in their 2-1 Ridgeons League Cup victory at Great Yarmouth.
This has set up a trip next Tuesday to Wisbech in the third round of the competition. Before that though, the Royals will be on their travels once more with a scheduled game in the Ridgeons Premier League against Felixstowe & Walton tomorrow.
Last Thursday evening, K&P’s youth team beat a good Norwich United side 3-2, (Ryan Crisp two and Baker) to remain clear at the top of their league.
Last night they were due to play third-placed Dereham Town Youth sitting seven points clear at the top.
Tomorrow, in the Anglian Combination Premier Division, James Hutchinson’s K&P Reserves will be aiming to bounce back from a 3-1 defeat at St Johns last Saturday as they entertain Sheringham (kick off 2pm).
In the Lowestoft and District League John Moore Shield quarter final, K&P B will also be aiming to bounce back from defeat, as they entertain Harleston Town Reserves (kick off 1.30pm) with all support welcomed for both games, and the clubhouse open all day.
A special “legends on tour” clash, which will see the big names back... and coming to Walmer Road.... on Sunday, May 15 is in the pipeline. “The likes of John Wark, Bryan Gunn, Jason Dozell, Gary Holt, David Johnson, Robert Fleck, Matt Holland and many more will be playing our legendary K&P vets team led by Jon Sturman!” a Royals spokesman said.
“You can sponsor a legend (Matty Holland already taken), play on their team (three only), or be an associate sponsor, a VIP or more..........full details will be announced in early February - or for more details telephone Dave Woodruff on 01502 741588.”
The club is also organising a special day at the races. “For only £20 you can travel by coach to Huntingdon Races and back, with FREE entrance and good camaraderie!” The spokesman said. “This takes place on Thursday, February 10 leaving the clubhouse at 9.30am and there are only 50 seats, so to book your place, telephone the clubhouse on 01502 513549 or e-mail email@example.com”
Tickets are still available for the club’s a pre-match meal on Saturday, March 19 with seats being booked now. “Cost is £15 per person, £12.50 to season ticket holders and OAP’s, and consists of a two course meal, free admission and free programme to the game versus Brantham Athletic,” the spokesman said. “A matchday sponsor for our BIG match against Needham Market in the semi final of the Suffolk Premier Cup at Walmer Road on Wenesday March 9 is stil needed and for more details on this and next month’s pre-match meal telephone Mr Woodruff on 01502 741588.”
