AFTER picking up a point in a good away showing against a Newmarket side who had made a number of changes to their staff and playing personnel in pre-season, manager Jon Reynolds was pleased with his side's display.

And with The Royals missing Russell Stock, Joe Jefford, Jamie Stokeld, Zac Clarke, James Cole, and Dave Tarawalli, the way this young K&P squad showed great spirit in earning a tough 0-0 draw was even more impressive.

Last night (Wednesday), K&P were looking to take this good showing into their first home game of the new Ridgeons League campaign, as they hosted Great Yarmouth Town at Walmer Road.

The Bloaters were likely to be in equally high spirits after their opening day 4-1 away win at Wivenhoe.

All attentions quickly shift from the league programme to Saturday's next game, as K&P start off on the FA Cup trail with a tough away trip to Wellingborough.

They are due to clash with the Northamptonshire based side - known as the Doughboys - who play in the United Counties Football League Premier Division.

Last season the Doughboys finished in 11th place in a division that includes St Ives, who K&P beat in last season's FA Cup run.

Should Saturday's FA Cup tie end in a draw, the replay will be held on Wednesday, August 18, kick-off 7.45pm at Walmer Road.

If a replay is not needed, K&P's first team will be in action next Wednesday anyway, with an away trip in the league to take on Debenham LC.

James Hutchinson's reserves were in action with a mixed squad contesting a good pre-season workout win over Waveney last Saturday.

Waveney gave them a good work-out but the reserves eventually ran out 4-2 winners.

They have their last pre-season friendly on Saturday at home to AFC Star's Sunday team (kick-off 2.30pm, referee S Hammersley) before the new season of senior football kicks off next week.

K&P Reserves entertain Hempnall, kick-off 7.30pm at Walmer Road (referee Lee Garrod), in the Anglian Combination Premier Division next Tuesday.

The U18 K&P youth team also commence their pre-season friendly programme tonight (Thursday, August 12) against Debenham (away, 7.45pm kick-off).

Next Thursday, August 19, they entertain Leiston at home before taking on a mixed K&P A and B team on Sunday, August 29 at Walmer Road (1.30pm kick-off).

They commence their league campaign with a home fixture against Harford Tornadoes Youth on September 2.

The new youth team management of Daryl Hill, Paul Gant and Ben Atkins will take over a successful side, who have just returned from Holland as victors of the Haarlem U18 Cup.

For Graham Bunning and Shaun Norman it was a fitting end to their tenure with the youth team, as they returned home from this prestigious youth tournament with silverware.

For the next two days of the Lowestoft Airshow, Walmer Road will be open for car parking on both days.

This costs 7 per car, to leave your vehicle in safe surroundings.
