Kirkley and Pakefield 2, Needham Market 2

In a tremendous game of entertaining end-to-end football, the scores finished at two-all when Kirkley and Pakefield entertained long time Ridgeons League leaders Needham Market, writes Stuart Baker. Kirkley started the ball rolling on three minutes with a thrilling run by Stone who lifted the ball just over the crossbar and on 17 minutes Kirkley thought they had taken the lead but Blyth was harshly penalised when the keeper missed the ball and Blyth got a foot to it to put in the net but it was ruled out. Kirkley won the corner count but it was Needham who took the lead on 29 minutes when Danny Thrower found a half a yard of space and swivelled to hit a rising shot into the top of the net giving Pauling no chance. Kirkley were unlucky when Blyth hit the underside of the crossbar on 63 minutes but in the next move they beat the offside trap when Carter sprung Stone clear who finished with a neat shot past Jones. Pandemonium set in amongst the 217 strong crowd when Henderson slipped his marker to set up a slide-rule pass for Blyth to put Kirkley into a 2-1 lead on 80 minutes but five minutes from time Kirkley suffered a shattering blow when Ben Cranfield hit a shot that got a wicked deflection leaving Pauling stranded.
