THE game may have finished goalless but there was no end of season air about the contest as both sides contributed to an excellent night's fare.

With the league title won Lowestoft opted to give 17-year-old Joe Clark his first Ryman League start last night (Tuesday).

Enfield were the first to threaten with nippy striker Stuart Blackburne played though with Andy Reynolds making the first of many important saves. The tone of the game was set as Lowestoft replied with Dale Cockrill feeding Matt Nolan who brought a diving save from Rob Blackburne.

Jamie Forshaw took a return pass from Matt Nolan but his shot curled straight into the arms of Rob Blackburne. Enfield bounced back with Stuart Blackburne again finding himself clear but his cross shot beat both Andy Reynolds and the far post.

Lowestoft thought they had taken the lead midway through the first period as Jamie Forshaw slid in a low Craig Bussens cross but was ruled offside. An entertaining first half came to a close with Jamie Forshaw threading the ball through to Dale Cockrill but Rob Blackburne was out quickly to save at his feet.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Matt Nolan curling a shot just wide of the upright. Rob Blackburne's long clearance sent his namesake Stuart racing clear but he was foiled by an excellent one handed save by Andy Reynolds. The end to end play continued with Dale Cockrill seeing his long range shot turned round the post by Rob Blackburne.

Enfield enjoyed a spell on top with Jordan Lockie's 30 yard drive tipped over the bar by Andy Reynolds. The Blues keeper was called into action again shortly afterwards saving from Michael Bardle. Bardle then released Adam Wallace but Reynolds again produced an excellent save.

Lowestoft responded with a Dale Cockrill shot parried by Rob Blackburne but as Danny Bloomfield pounced on the loose ball the angle was too narrow and he could only find the side netting.

Danny Bloomfield's snap shot from the edge of the area brought a one handed save from Rob Blackburne as a thoroughly entertaining game came to a goalless conclusion.

LOWESTOFT TOWN: Reynolds, Mitchell, Marsden (sub Halliday 60), Plaskett, Potter, Bussens, Dale Cockrill, Nolan, Clark (sub Godbold 64), Forshaw (sub Bloomfield 78). Subs (not used) Fisk, McGee.

Attendance: 771
