K&P's season is petering out slowly, after two defeats on the trot.

They had several chances last week at Leiston but the home side seemed more hungrier for victory under former Kirkley and Pakefield's favourite Carl Chenery.

On the plus side 16 year old full back Elliot Hunter had a storming match hardly putting a foot wrong all afternoon, writes Stuart G Baker.

Kirkley welcomed back Chris Henderson and Bodie Carter back into the team after last week's shock home defeat by Harwich.

For Kirkley Henderson stubbed his shot towards Stannard's goal after Leiston had begun the brighter of the two sides. Saker turned sharply in the box on 13 minutes but the angle was too sharp and his shot did not make any impact. Bodie Carter set Stone free winning a right wing corner which keeper Stannard collected easily on 20 minutes. Both teams were nullifying each other out in a cat and mouse contest. Kirkley gave the ball away too easily in midfield and Danny George raced through but screwed his shot a foot wide of the far post with Nathan Pauling scrambling across his goal line looking to save the shot.

On the half-hour mark former Kirkley centre forward Judd Chenery sent over an inch-perfect cross and centre back Marc Lowe swung a leg and the ball flew into the top corner of the net out of keeper Pauling's reach to make it 1-0 to Leiston.

With the clock starting to tick down Leiston forced two late corners which prompted a spell of pressure by the home side.

Kirkley came out well fired up and Stannard saved one-handed from Highfield but Leiston had done their homework on Kirkley winning the midfield battle as things began to hot up with bookings for Jefford and Highfield.

Pauling kept it down to 1-0 with a point blank save to deny Blake Saker in the 62nd minute and straightaway Kirkley made a double substitution bringing on Jamie Stokeld and Lee Hunter.

With thunder and lightning encircling the ground Kirkley tried in vain to find a non-existent gap in Leiston's defence and crashed to a disappointing 1-0 defeat.
