CRAIG Fleming is confident Lowestoft Town have enough to beat Concord Rangers tonight (Tuesday) - despite their nearest rivals making big improvements.

Back in August, the Blues handed out a 5-0 thrashing to the Essex outfit at Crown Meadow as they began their ascent to the top of Ryman League Division One North.

But second-placed Rangers are currently an eight-match winning streak and entertain Town at Thames Road tonight knowing victory will put them level on points with the league leaders, albeit having played three games more.

Fleming was a visitor to the Canvey Island outfit on Saturday when he saw Rangers beat Brentwood as Town's game was called off.

And although Rangers are doing well, Fleming, part of the Lowestoft management team, still fancies his side's chances in arguably their biggest game of the season to date.

'It's a very big game,' Fleming said.

'They'll be up for it. Our game was off on Saturday, so I went down to watch. They're a good side to be fair.

'They're much improved from when we played them early on in the season.

'I think that was one of our early home games and to be honest we gave them a bit of a stuffing. But now they're full of confidence and they've got some good players.

'If we're not at it they're quite capable of turning us over.'

The Blues have virtually a full-strength squad to choose from and Fleming expects his men to rise to the occasion.

'We've had a few big games, and I know it's a bit of a clich but they're all worth three points,' he said.

'But they're in second place and if they get something it closes the gap.

'We'll still have three games in hand which still leaves us in a strong position, but it would be nice to come from there with something.

'We're still in a good position and we go into the game full of confidence. I don't fear anybody at this level.

'We'll give them full respect, but I'm confident that if we turn up and produce like we should do we're more than a match for anybody.'

Rangers, who lost at home to Town in the FA Vase quarter-final two years ago, will go into tonight's game without 28-goal leading scorer Lyle Taylor and Dave Collins, who are both suspended.

And their manager Danny Scopes admits Town are still favourites for the title.

'We're on a fabulous run at the moment,' he said.

'Lowestoft must still be strong favourites, but they'll have some long and tricky midweek games now.'
