Lowestoft and Yarmouth travel to the Fens to take on Wisbech this Saturday in the London & SE Senior Vase third round fixture that was postponed due to the arctic conditions before Christmas.
L&Y and Wisbech are no strangers to cup ties and this will be the third time the teams have squared up in as many seasons with L&Y earning the bragging rights on both previous occasions.
Director of Rugby Scott Nelson will not take anything for granted against a Wisbech side that have the knack of upsetting sides on good form and will go into this match with a full strength squad wanting to progress to either face Upminster or Bank of England in the next round.
L&Y welcome back Callum Cashman to the bench after a couple of weeks absence due to university commitments.
“It is great that as we go into the final few weeks of the league season we still have a national cup run ahead and if we can turn over Wisbech we get a home tie in the next round,” said Nelson. “I have been very impressed with all the boys involved over the last month and they seem to all be getting better week after week and we still have a headache at selection, not through missing players but who to pick!
“With our fitness levels much improved from previous seasons and a dedicated physio we have been incredibly lucky with the injury list that has in the past hit us hard come the end of season. I expect a tough encounter against Wisbech and hope the lads can get the result they deserve.”
Squad to face Wisbech: Jake Titterington, Chris Howe, Richard Bristo, Russell Wilkinson, Ryan Oakes, Steve Powles, Kristen Taylor-Crisp, Marc Thomas (captain), Russell Chapman, Matt Jary, Joshua Fewkes, Myles McAlone, Daniel Boardley, Dave Palmer, Tom Dare, Graeme Newton, Steve Adams, Callum Cashman, Donald Mcarthur.
