REID ALL ABOUT IT

ON Saturday we visited Brooke, who won the toss and surprisingly elected to bowl in what seemed perfect batting conditions.

After losing the early wicket of Joe Larter this brought the in-form Mpho to the crease.

Sekhoto and Ryan De Coteau then both looked in great form as they shared a second wicket partnership of 170. Ryan was bowled for an excellent 69, however there was no stopping Mpho who recorded another century.

He dispatched the bowling to all parts of the ground and neighbouring fields before being caught for a magnificent 174. Nathan Garrod also contributed a quickfire 32 to see us reach 301 for 5.

It was another great performance from the batsmen and an incredible innings from Mpho who is showing great ability and concentration at present.

Brooke looked to attack from the off with overseas player R Dewan, however Tom Brice bowled great areas once again beating the bat regularly.

Peter Sims' introduction into the attack steadied the run rate and also brought the wicket of the dangerous Dewan, who was well caught by former skipper Garrod in the deep for a brisk 40.

The bowlers did a superb job on a flat pitch and were well supported by good fielding. This led to pressure on the home side resulting in wickets and an increasing required run rate.

Brooke managed to hang on for a losing draw finishing 226 for 8.

Sims returned excellent figures of 5 for 48 and Tom Brice bowled superbly for his 2 for 49. It was another confident performance from the team resulting in 18 points to keep us in touch with second place Vauxhall Mallards.

This Saturday we are looking forward to testing ourselves against high flying Downham who are 50 points clear at the top of the table.

The A team picked up 20 points beating Saxlingham at home by five wickets. The visitors scored 152 for 5. Lowestoft then made short work of reaching the target in the 22nd over with Paul Rice scoring a fine 51 and Carl Scott an excellent 66.

The B team suffered a defeat at Hingham. Lowestoft scored 128 all out before the hosts knocked off the runs for the loss of four wickets.

The C team had another impressive victory with a very good bowling display from Dean Pierpoint taking six wickets and Andy Thompson three. Lowestoft C chased a modest Shipdham target of 74.

Under 14 player Haydon Rogers took three catches and followed it up with 17 attacking runs. Debutant Peter Graham also scored an excellent 19 not out as Lowestoft eased to another victory and cemented their fourth place in division seven of the Norfolk Cricket League.

On Sunday a young Lowestoft side took on Beccles in a friendly and won a very close encounter by one run.
