Lowestoft Town club notes by Terry Lynes

A LAST minute goal at Croydon Athletic denied Lowestoft Town a semi final berth in the Championship Manager Cup last week. Jamie Godbold had given the Blues the lead, which was cancelled out as the home side won through by the odd goal of four.

A tough week on the road ended with a return to winning form as the Blues defeated Gt Wakering Rovers by three clear goals on Saturday. The first half produced plenty of effort but few goalmouth incidents, but the Blues took a firm grip of proceedings with goals by Matt Nolan, Andrew Fisk and Scott Mitchell in the second half.

Tuesday evening then brought a third home league defeat as Brentwood Town won by the odd goal of three. The visitors hit spectacular long range goals two minutes into the game and two minutes before the end but in between the Blues dominated yet could not add to Danny Bloomfield's first goal for the club.

Three times the woodwork was struck and visiting keeper Ben Stone produced a string of excellent saves to keep the Blues at bay.

Lowestoft were in action away to Tilbury last night (Thursday) and tomorrow entertain Waltham Forest at the Meadow, kick off 3pm. The Blues then commence a run of five successive away games starting with a visit to Maldon Town on Tuesday.

The reserves are now putting together a run of fixtures as they eat into their backlog. On Saturday they reached the final of the Suffolk Reserve Team Cup for the second successive year with a 4-1 victory over Ipswich Wanderers Reserves, Danny Mitchell and Dale Cockrill hitting two goals each.

On Tuesday evening they travelled to Needham Market Reserves and defeated the home side 2-0 with goals from Joe Clark and Bradley Hough. Tomorrow they are away to Whitton United Reserves and on Tuesday evening play a quick return against Needham Market Reserves at the Meadow.

The Youth team also returned to action last week with an uninspiring 2-0 victory over Cromer Town Youth, Kyle Baker and Joe Clark on the scoresheet. Last Wednesday they were due to meet Dereham Town Youth in a top of the table clash. They are in action again on Monday when Norwich United youth are the visitors.

The Under 17s defeated Hellesdon Under 17s 5-2 with a hat trick for injured keeper Gary Foyster who donned the striker's shirt. Kyle Baker and Joe Clark were also on the scoresheet.

The Under 15s reached their league cup final with a 5-1 victory over Kirkley & Pakefield. Nathan Russell hit a brace with the others coming from Jordan Miles, Calvin Vincent and Ryan Sharman.
