CHAPPO'S CORNER

LAST Saturday at home to Waltham Forest was a great win for us. It was so important as well.

We knew it was going to be tough as the game before against Brentwood we'd lost at home and although we'd bounced back since then it was important to get back to winning games at home.

We said we needed to start games better and in the first 20 minutes we were excellent. We were on the front foot and we got a good goal through Jamie Godbold.

A great ball from the left flank from Scott Mitchell and Dale Cockrill at the far post nodded it back into the six yard area and there was Jamie steaming in with a rare header.

It was a great finish and a great bit of football.

Dale was then upended for the penalty and Matt Nolan stuck it away and we looked to be in total command.

But unfortunately they got a penalty, and it gave them a little bit of hope and they got back into again.

At half-time we just said to the boys they had to just keep doing the right things and get back to playing at a high tempo.

2-1 is always a little bit tricky, but they had a player sent off and from that moment on there was only ever going to be one winner.

We made the extra man count and the third goal was a diamond with some great football down the left flank and Matty chipped it over the defence and into the top corner.

The final goal summed up Gary Holt. One minute he's defending in our 18 yard box and the next minute he's popping in their 18-yard box. There was Holty controlling the ball and just dinking it into the corner.

The boys were excellent and it was a really good, hard-earned three points in front of another big crowd.

Every point is important at the moment and it was important to follow the win at Tilbury with another one.

We mixed the side up on Saturday again because players had played less than 48 hours earlier at Tilbury and done absolutely brilliantly, but it's a big ask for them to do it again less than two days later.

It was our last home game until Easter.

At Maldon on Tuesday it was a great result for the lads. It was always going to be difficult because they are a vastly-improved team, but Joe Francis and Adam Smith scored two really good goals and we backed our wins up.

A clean sheet as well and you cannot ask any more than that.

We keep saying one game at a time and that's what we'll continue to do.

The boys had a night off from training last night - I think they've earned that. There have been a lot of miles travelled and a lot of tired legs and so it was important for them to recharge their batteries for tomorrow.

It's a tough game at VCD Athletic. They're just outside the play-off area and it's going to be tough game and we have to make sure we're right.
