Lowestoft Road Runners brave Bungay Marathon

PUBLISHED: 16:21 19 April 2012

Lowestoft Road Runners were among the 186 brave runners that competed in the Bungay Marathon last weekend.

This is a notoriously difficult two lap race with some large leg sapping hills making up the first six miles of each lap.

Amongst the runners were two from Lowestoft Road Runners. Matt Ellis was an impressive 77th, finishing in a personal best time of 3-34:47.

Ashley Norton, competing in his first marathon came in 145th in a highly respectable time of 4-19:14. Both were delighted to finish the tough course in good spirits .

On the same day the Half Marathon is also run. The 485 competitors complete one of the gruelling laps and three runners from the club did well.

First home was Chris Haylock in a slick 1-41:49 in 105th place. Next came Tom Collier in a new personal best of 1-45:13 in 151st place.

First lady home for the club was Shelly Smith in a time of 1-51:30 in 202nd place (fifth senior lady).

Many of the club runners opt out of this race because they are resting for Sunday’s London Marathon. We wish the nine members of the club who are running the best of luck.
