On a warm sunny day Lowestoft Road Runners sent two teams down to Ipswich to compete in the Ekiden Relays.

This is a relay race in teams of six who complete various distance legs to make up the marathon distance of 42.5km. Competitors must run on cross country trails doing multiple laps of a fairly challenging course.

The men’s team did well coming home in 20th place (out of 115 teams) in 2hrs 50 mins. Running first was Jonathan Meadows who did his 7.5km leg in 29:40 followed by Ashley Norton (5km in 21:31), Chris Scott (10km in 40:04); Chris Haylock (5km in 20:39), Sean Lark (10 km in 38:25) and Carl Meen (5km in 20:37).

The mixed social team also performed soundly – Mathew Reynolds (7.5km in 34:39), Gina Scott 5km in 30:19), Karen Archbold (10km in 45:15), Claire Tarrent (5km in 30:41), Ashley Norton (10km in 46:30) and Rachel Allen (5km in 31:29

This is a great social event and all who took part enjoyed it.

n Battling storms of a biblical nature seven members of Lowestoft Road Runners boarded the ark and set sail for Wroxham.

As they arrived the weather miraculously cleared for the short duration of the race.

A field of 184 wet souls had braved the conditions to run.

First home for the club was Chris Scott in 14th place in 18:01 closely followed by Jonathan Meaadows in 19:11 in 35th.

First Lady home was Karen Archbold in 60th place (fifth lady) winning her age group.

Mark Elflett finished in 91st place in 22:08 followed by Mathew Reynolds in a PB of 23:51 in 121st place and Elayne Hilton in 24:10 in 130th place.

Bringing up the rear (again) was Simon Bunting in 26:18 in 153rd place.
