Lowestoft Road Runners make their mark at Fritton Triathlon Festival

A glorious sunny morning greeted hundreds of athletes gathering for the annual Fritton Triathlon Festival.
This is a series of triathlon races over different distances set in and around the picturesque grounds of the Fritton Lake Estate.
The first event, a sprint tri comprises of a 750m swim, a 20km bike and a 5km run.
Saturday afternoon saw the second race, a super sprint tri comprising a 400m swim, a 14km bike and a 2.5km run. This was followed on Sunday morning by an Olympic tri, a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike and a 10km run.
The hot sunshine made racing tough particularly on Sunday morning and this was reflected in the relatively slow run times as the temperatures soared.
Amongst the hundreds of competitors were several from Lowestoft Road Runners. Completing the sprint were Shaun Kay in 83rd place in 1 hour 24 minutes 33 seconds, Jo Browne in 158th place in 1:42.56 while completing her first triathlon was Vicky Aldred in 162nd place in 1:44.19.
Claire Collier completed the super sprint tri to complete her first triathlon in 1 hour 4 minutes 25 seconds.
Paul Lyon completed the Olympic tri in 22nd place in 2 hours 20 minutes and 5 seconds.
A team of Donna Coleman, Ben Hodds and Chris Haylock completed the Olympic relay triathlon, emerging victorious as the fastest team in 2 hours 22 minutes 36 seconds.
Four members of the club completed the Triple tri challenge, doing all three races Surprisingly there were 47 people brave enough to try this.
Tom Collier finished the sprint in 48th place in 1:18.21 running with wife Claire and he finished the super sprint in 1:04.26 and the Olympic in 2:38.31 in 64th place.
Simon Bunting completed the sprint in 1:22.13, the super sprint in 50.11 and the Olympic in 2:45.18.
Karen Archbold completed the sprint in 1:24.50 the super in 52.32 and Olympic in 2:53.15, winning her age group in all three races and therefore winning her age in the triple tri challenge.
Mark Elflett completed the sprint in 1:22.04, the super in 51.15 and the Olympic in 2:58.48.
