LOWESTOFT Town have a golden opportunity to stretch their lead at the top of Rymans League Division One North tonight (Tuesday).

With closest rivals Thamesmead not playing until tomorrow, the Blues travel to lowly Maldon Town (7.45pm) knowing a win would take them seven points clear.

Lowestoft go into the game protecting a proud unbeaten run in the league stretching all the way back to August 22, when they suffered their only defeat of the campaign so far at home to Ilford.

Since then they have won 12 and drawn three - and they will certainly fancy their chances of extending that sequence against a side they beat 3-0 away in the League Cup as recently as December 8.

The Blues will go into the game fresh after Saturday's scheduled trip to Brentwood was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

No such problems are expected at Maldon, where the leaders will have to do without the services of midfielder Andrew Fisk, who is still suspended after his sending off at Northwood.

Scott Mitchell will also be missing after undergoing an operation on a broken nose.
