Lowestoft to go west for FA Trophy tie

Lowestoft Town Club Notes by Terry Lynes CUP football again takes centre stage this week.

This afternoon (Friday) the Blues set out on the long trek west prior to tomorrow’s FA Carlsberg Trophy tie against Chippenden Town.

Very little is known about the opponents except that they compete in the Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division and after last weekend were sitting in third place with a similar record to the Blues.

Should the tie end in a draw the replay will be at the Crown Meadow on Tuesday evening.

A definite result will see the Blues still in cup action at the Crown Meadow but in a different competition with old Ridgeons league rivals Newmarket Town the visitors in the Suffolk Premier Cup.

Last Saturday proved to be a day to forget for the Blues as they made their first visit to Hastings United.

A late arrival and delayed kick-off, a dreadful game with Lowestoft by far the better of two poor sides on the day, both Lee McGlone harshly and Andrew Fisk stupidly sent off leaving the Blues with just nine men, and just one shot to trouble either keeper and that came from Scott Mitchell in ‘added time’ at the end of the game.

The one good thing to come out of Saturday was Hendon drawing in the FA Cup leaving the Blues with a free week to prepare for the FA Trophy tie.

The heavy early morning rain left the Crown Meadow pitch waterlogged leading to their scheduled Ridgeons Reserve League fixture against Gt Yarmouth Town Reserves being postponed. Tomorrow the Reserves are also away with a visit to Woodbridge Town Reserves.

A goal on the stroke of half-time gave Lowestoft Town Youth a single goal victory over Dereham Town Youth and their first league points of the season. They too are in cup action next week with an Eastern Junior Cup tie against Bungay Town Youth on Wednesday evening.

The U16 squad were 5-0 victors over St Benets last Sunday with Connor Doddington getting two goals and one each for Josh Allen, Jordan Miles and Nathan Russell. This Sunday they are at home to Bohemians in the League Cup.

Jason Spurgeon netted for the U15s but they fell to a 1-3 defeat away to Kirkley & Pakefield. This Sunday they are away to Oulton Mariners in the League Cup.

On the player front, Christy Finch is joining Needham Market on a three-month loan agreement.
