IPSWICH are being linked with manager Roy Keane's former Manchester United team-mate Quinton Fortune, who ended up playing for Belgium club AFC Tubize last season but could not save them from relegation.

The 32-year-old former South Africa international is also reported to be set for a trial with Birmingham City having spent time at Sheffield United last autumn before a short-lived spell at Serie B Brescia.

Ipswich are still being strongly linked with Sheffield Wednesday defender Richard Wood.

Wood, who was the subject of several bids from Coventry City last season, is currently negotiating a new deal to stay at Hillsborough.

Reports suggest that the Blues are lining up £1m-plus bid for the player, who has 12 months left on his contract.

Keane has expressed his desire to make Portman Road a fortress again in 2009/10. Last season the Blues only won eight home league games, whereas in Jim Magilton's first two seasons in charge they strung together 14 straight wins.

“It would be good if we can make it a bit more intimidating for our opponents,” said Keane. “It's all about getting the balance right.

“I can't and won't forget the traditions of the club and the way the players have been brought up here to play football. I was brought up the same way.”
