WHILE everyone will be tucking in to their Easter eggs on Sunday, 13-year-old Sophie Stephenson from Gorleston will be travelling the 220 miles to Yorkshire, to start the first stage of fulfilling a dream to compete for the national karate squad, when she trains with the England squad in a closed session under the watchful eye of the national coach Wayne Otto OBE.

Sophie's instructors Charlie and Vivianne Trorey, from the Phoenix Karate Schools, received the email from the English Karate Federation last week and were thrilled for Sophie.

Charlie said: “To be selected to attend a closed session is an extreme honour; Sophie was noticed while fighting at the EKF's recent championships in Sheffield. Sophie's whole family are behind her and will be supporting her all the way, only last weekend, travelling to watch her compete in the Scottish Championships in Edinburgh.”

If you would like to train with a successful club and have the same opportunities as Sophie - who also helps to instruct in Waveney - or any of the AMA national squad, ring Charlie or Vivianne on 01502 730171 or 07895 550168 for details of classes in Martham, Great Yarmouth, Gorleston, Hopton and Oulton Broad.
