Kirkley & Pakefield took on newly-promoted Coggeshall Town at Walmer Road last Saturday and conceded a late equaliser to draw 1-1 with a side who have made an excellent start to the season.

The star attraction was a Coggeshall supporter in the shape of pop star Olly Murs, who made a surprise guest appearance at the club.

Olly formerly played for Coggeshall and nowadays trains, supports and sponsors them whenever possible. His presence was welcomed by the club and he pleased many by making it a special day for them by having their photos taken with him.

On the pitch second in the league Coggeshall went a goal down when Tarren Grint put the Royals into a deserved 47th minute lead.

On 74 minutes Max Wall, starting his first senior game was sent off, following two yellows, and then on 85 minutes the away team were gifted an equaliser through an own goal, although the draw saw the Royals being only the third team to take points off of Coggeshall to date.

Kirkley & Pakefield: A Rix, M Wilson, T Grint, L Hammond, J Herbert (capt), L Flower, K Haylock, M Wall, J Haverson, K Baker, G Williams, M Holt. Subs used: D Blades, L Harvey-Cooper. Sub unused: C Eagleton.

It’s Friday night football tonight at Walmer Road when Kirkley & Pakefield have an attractive fixture against runaway league leaders Felixstowe & Walton United in the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division.

For this rare Friday night game, in an attempt by the league to boast attendances, the club has put on a special promotion - all persons 18-plus can purchase a bottle of Sol and sausage roll for just £1.

Next Tuesday evening sees the Royals travel up the A47 to Great Yarmouth for a league match (7.45pm).

Away at Aylsham last Saturday the Reserves went down 4-0. The A team were at home on the 3G Arena to last season’s champions Mutford & Wrentham and went down 5-0 while the B team had the share of the spoils with a 2-2 draw at Bungay Town A.

The Reserves have a Suffolk County Senior Cup second round match at Hundon on Saturday (2.30pm). The Bs play on the 3G Arena in a L&D Division Two game against Carlton Colville (2pm) and the As have a blank Saturday.
