LOWESTOFT Town came from behind to beat Margate at Crown Meadow on Saturday, although Blues' first team coach Craig Fleming believes there is plenty more to come from the Blues.

Darren Marsden's memorable volley midway through the first-half gave the visitors a deserved lead but this served only to spark Lowestoft into life and they were level soon afterwards thanks to Lee McGlone's first competitive goal for the club.

Danny Bloomfield got the winner early in the second half but, while Fleming was delighted with the character Lowestoft showed, he believes Town are capable of a lot more.

'We showed a lot of spirit after going a goal down, which was obviously pleasing but we will play a lot better this season than that,' said the former Norwich City defender. 'I think we had to grind it out today and it was good to see Lee get off the mark.

'He's someone we've kept an eye on since his Ridgeons days and he is taking his opportunity with both hands. Danny then does what he has been doing ever since he has come through the academy at Norwich.'

The early stages were only notable through some of the nice touches in display from Margate midfielder Marsden, who was looking to link with Margate's strikers at every opportunity.

Lowestoft almost fell behind in the 12th minute after Jamie Godbold was penalised for an innocuous looking challenge on Curtis Robinson on the corner of the penalty area.

Wayne Wilson whipped in an in-swinging free-kick which threatened to find a way through a crowded penalty area until Andy Reynolds plunged to his left and clawed the ball away to safety.

But Margate capitalised on their ascendancy in the 22nd minute and the Trawlerboys' faithful won't see too many better goals at Crown Meadow this season.

Reynolds came to punch clear a lofted free-kick into the penalty area but could only clear to the edge of his penalty area where the waiting Marsden unleashed a fearsome volley that arrowed its way into the top corner.

The Lowestoft management team would have wanted to see a response and they got it within two minutes thanks to a lovely flowing move.

Godbold found Andrew Cave-Brown overlapping well down the right flank and the former Norwich City defender stood up an inviting cross towards McGlone, and the striker produced an excellent looping header back across goal that visiting goalkeeper Jamie Turner could only stand and admire.

Confidence suddenly returned to Lowestoft for the remainder of the half and they looked the side more likely to hit the front.

Godbold almost got in on goal just before half time after Bloomfield's pass but Robinson just managed to get a tackle in to deny the Blues' skipper.

Eight minutes into the second period and Lowestoft got the goal their pressure warranted.

Adam Smith's 25-yard free-kick cleared the wall and Jamie Turner couldn't hold on to the shot and Bloomfield showed his predatory instinct as he reacted quickest to the loose ball and fired home.

Margate were almost back on level terms straight away however when Ishmail Miller, who had looked woeful up until this point, suddenly showed a nice piece of skill before his left-footed curler form 20 yards brought the best out of Reynolds, who tipped over.

The visitors were suddenly stung into action and Lowestoft had a big let-off in the 66th minute when Pinnock's shot from the edge of the penalty area looked destined for the back of the net until Dale Cockrill's deflection took it just wide with Reynolds motionless.

Lowestoft went looking for a third to put the game beyond the reach of Margate and McGlone almost provided it when he met Mitchell's sumptuous free-kick, but the former Lieston man glanced wide from close range.

Margate saw any hope of rescuing a point banished late on when Robinson was shown a second yellow card for a late tackle on Godbold.

Lowestoft will be determined to keep up the winning habit when they go to Concord Rangers this afternoon although they may have to do without Cave-Brown, who is suffering from an ankle problem.
