IPSWICH Town Community Trust will be hosting a World Cup-style football tournament at Portman Road on Sunday with teams from the local community representing their countries.

IPSWICH Town Community Trust will be hosting a World Cup-style football tournament at Portman Road on Sunday with teams from the local community representing their countries.

Eighteen teams will take part in an adult male five-a-side tournament including Togo, Kurdistan, Kenya, England, India, Bangladesh, Albania and Poland.

The tournament starts at 10am and will last to around 4.30pm and see over 144 players competing.

Both Ipswich Town FC and the Community Trust are firm supporters of anti-racism campaigns, 'Kick it Out' and 'Show Racism the Red Card' and takes a zero tolerance stance on racism.

This tournament aims to bring players of all nationalities and ethnic groups living in the local community together for a fun and diverse day of football.

Ipswich Town Community Trust and partners, Suffolk Police, Suffolk Police Authority, Suffolk County Council, Ipswich Borough Council, Suffolk FA, Suffolk Family Carers, ISCRE, Ipswich Community Radio and CSV media are hosting the competition as a way of increasing awareness and understanding of anti-racism messages and working towards community cohesion.

Councillor Judy Terry said: 'This is an excellent way to bring together communities in Ipswich and Suffolk through sport. The One Community Cup is an imaginative event and fully deserves our support. I hope as many people as possible attend on the day to cheer their team.'

Assistant chief constable Gary Kitching added: 'This is a very positive community event, and it is good to see so many different communities being represented.'
