THE curtain came down on the 2007/08 Great Yarmouth, Gorleston and Lowestoft snooker league with the presentation night being held at the Pot Black Club, Lowestoft.

This season had proved to be a very successful one for the clubs of Lowestoft.

In Division 2 Pipers 'A' strolled away with the title winning every match bar one they drew.

A new team formed this year captained by R Hancox and made up of some old experienced premier league players will be a challenge to any team they play next year in the higher league.

Runners up were other new boys Pot Black Whirlwinds. Lee Roberts and his merry men managed to beat everyone in the league apart from the classy Pipers A to claim a well-deserved second place.

The premier league also saw two Pot Black teams claiming the glory.

Pot Black Boys with the youngest average age in league produced their best ever season to finish runners up and at Christmas looked like the champions elect.

R Long and his team lost a few crucial matches on the home stretch but showing this form could well be in the mix again next season.

The closest top flight league for many years was finally won by Pot Black A regaining the title they had lost to the Arcadian Golden Oldies the previous year.

With the team that has dominated the league for the best part of a decade, a consistent string of results saw them home by just four points, with only eight points separating the top four.

In the evening's individual competitions Pot Black new boy A Owens won both the Independent Handicapped singles and the billiards trophies with fine displays in both skills of the green baize.

Owens did however meet his match in the premier individual tournament, the Championship Cup. R Cooper back to his old form produced three 50 plus breaks to claim his second scratch title in fluent style.

R Cooper along with R Long also won the Taylor Pairs in a tight deciding frame against Yar Con 'A' players, B Fish and P Stone, to cap off an excellent night for the Pot Black players.
