ONE of the oldest angling clubs in Lowestoft is still going strong locally - and they celebrated a special anniversary in style at the weekend.

Pye Angling Club celebrated 50 years of fishing in the Lowestoft area with a special presentation night on Saturday and one of the original founder members, Colin Seago, is still fishing and organising the club since it first started at the Pye television factory, or Sanyo as it is better known in the town, in 1959.

One of the oldest angling clubs in the region is still going strong - and it celebrated a special anniversary in style at the weekend.

Club members and their guests celebrated their 50th year with a presentation and dance at the Uplands Community Centre, as more than 100 people turned out to celebrate into the early hours.

Club members Wayne Smith and Nikki and Adam Hayden, along with an amazing bunch of helpers, provided a buffet fit for kings and queens with guest of honour Stuart Platt from Hinderclay Lake near Diss, who presented the trophies to the winners and commiserated with those who also-fished.

"To my knowledge, we are one of the only fishing clubs still going strong after 50 years," a club spokesman said.

As one of the original founding members of the club, Colin Seago was presented with a clock and certificate of thanks in recognition of his excellent achievement of 50 years with the club.

"The club started as a sea fishing club, with a few freshwater matches throughout the year, but now is still flourishing with both a full fixture list of sea and freshwater matches," the spokesman added.

The age range of the club is both young and the young at heart and we welcome new members to join us."

Pye Angling Club holds its annual presentation evening in February, plus social events such as barbecues and Christmas party nights throughout the year.
