LOWESTOFT Road Runners have not been put off by the colder than usual February, in fact they've achieved personal best times in many races.

Early in the month, Shaun Lark accompanied Mark Elflett in the Great Bently Half Marathon. Shaun's help in trying to get Mark's pb down was not in vain as Mark reached his target with 1hr 41.35 with Shaun a second behind, in 317th and 318th position.

The following week in the St. Valentine 10km race, at Swanton Abbott four members took part in this, part of the Runners Centre Grand Prix Series. New member Tom Richardson had an excellent run in eighth place, with his pb of 36.21. Shaun Lark was next in 10th with 37.10 followed closely by Chris Scott in 13th place in 37.16 a personal best for him. Mark Elflett completed the squad in 65th place with 45.47. Tom, Shaun and Chris's places, resulted in the three of them taking the first men's team prize, which is a great achievement, especially on such a hilly and taxing course.

Last weekend was the Adnams Great East 20km and 10km race organized by the Bungay Black Dog Running Club. This undulating course was made even more of a challenge by the appalling weather conditions, which left some competitors shivering over the finish line, despite the hard efforts of 416 runners. Carl Prewer led for a while, but he could not manage to keep the tough pace of the eventual winner. His second place earned him a time of 1hr 11.34. Birthday Boy Shaun Lark was 13th in 1hr 20.17. Chris Scott in 14th place achieved another pb by over a minute, with 1hr 21.11. Karen Archbold in 70th place, was the second lady home and also achieved a pb of 1hr 29.59. Mark Elflett in 146th place earned yet another pb with 1hr 38.30. Faye Ellis 298th with 1hr 54.59, Simon Bunting 314th, 1hr 57.14, Roger Mawer 383rd 2hr 11.51. Ashley Norton was the only entrant in the 10km event, and was pleased with his performance of 29th position in 45.52.
