Rookery Park members Jayne George and Hannah Rees were part of the large field of pairs in the Royal West Norfolk Ladies' Open.

Women from many clubs across East Anglia took part playing the difficult format of foursomes golf. Royal West Norfolk can be one of the country's most challenging links courses set between the sea and the salt marshes of Brancaster.

At the competition registration the event organiser, on noting their low handicaps, commented 'Good luck playing this course with such a small shot allowance!' Fortunately luck played no part in their golf as they came in with a tremendous score of 41 points, three points clear of second place, and lifted the trophy.

Back at Rookery the ladies held their closed championship and once again some great performances were on show. A stunning nett 64 gave Kathy Holmes a seven shot victory in Division Three of the Closed Championship. Kathy also continued her quest to reduce her handicap with another four shots reduction.

Lyn Lay also produced her best golf of the year to secure second place.

Divisions One and Two were much closer contests, with Judy Taylor edging Veronica Dawson on a countback, and in Division Two Jenny Ives edging Petronella Wright on countback.

The men's section held the popular pairs trophy competitions, the Irish Cup. The cup was one by friends Ray Flook and Bo Bidle with an exceptional score of 50 points. In their first nine holes they recorded five birdies and when handicap allowances are taken into account their score translates into a round that was 14 under par.

Seniors captain David Porter teamed up for the first time with Billy Donachie to play in the Ely Golf Club Open. Despite playing the full round in driving rain they managed to accumulate 45 points which was easily enough to lift the first prize.

Hockey: Lowestoft Ladies' pre-season training is under way on Tuesday evenings (6.30 to 7.30pm) at East Point Academy. New, former and returning players are all welcome to come down and join the action as the club aim to top last season's achievements.
