KIRKLEY & Pakefield boss Jon Reynolds has added two new recruits to his backroom team as preparations begin in earnest for the forthcoming Ridgeons League campaign.

Robbie Horton, whose career has been hit by two serious knee injuries, and Danny McKinley will both be involved behind the scenes as K&P return to pre-season training next week.

“Robbie has suffered with horrendous injuries and I have asked him to help in a coaching capacity with the first team,” said Reynolds. “He’s awaiting an operation, but there is still more football in him – he is only 23.

“The players all know and like him and he knows the job.

“Danny has been involved in local football for a few years now and will give us a helping hand. It just firms up what we have already,” Reynolds admitted.

Pre-season training begins next Tuesday, with sessions from 7pm to 9pm at Foxborough Middle School.

“We welcome new players as well,” said Reynolds.

“The season has hardly finished, it seems, and we are starting again, but we need to be ready and prepared.”

K&P’s U18 team will also commence pre-season training next Tuesday at Foxborough Miiddle School, between 7pm and 9pm, with “anyone welcome” according to the youth team’s management.

Off the field, the club is pushing forward with plans for a new-look programme for next season’s Ridgeons campaign, and rumours are abound with regard to incomings and outgoings at Walmer Road.

The club also this week announced the following friendly matches ahead of the new campaign - Tuesday, July 19 versus Framlingham Town from the Suffolk and Ipswich League; Tuesday, July 26 versus Bungay Town from the Anglian Combination and Tuesday, August 2 versus Bury Town from the Ryman League.

“All matches above are at Walmer Road and kick off at 7.45pm,” a spokesman for the KP Royals said. “Admission charges are £1 for the Framlingham and Bungay matches and £2.50 for the Bury Town match.”

Away games have also been organised against Grundisburgh on Thursday, July 21, kick off 7pm and against Wenhaston on Thursday, July 28, kick off 6.30pm.

“Details of season ticket prices will be available shortly,” the KP Royals spokesman said.

“And if anyone is interested in playing for any of our six adult teams in the forthcoming season then come and see us at the clubhouse at Walmer Road on Friday, July 1 or Friday, July 8, commencing at 7.30pm.”
