LAST Sunday was another good sailing day, sunny with a decent breeze, the only problem being that the wind kept trying to go to the north from northwest which made setting a good course difficult.

Richard Fryer in is RS400 was given a hard race by Duncan Madin in his RS300 in the first Fast Handicap race and at the end Madin took the winning bell with Ben Falat in third place in his Contender.

But when the handicaps were worked out David Frary in his Finn once again moved up from fifth to win comfortably. Madin dropped a place to second while Falat held onto third.

There was a good fleet of ten Squibs out and Owen Delany took an early lead which he never lost. Behind him David Gooch and Jim Tubby picked up a place as Bryan Riley unusually dropped places.

Richard Fryer.got well away from the rest of the fleet in the second Fast Handicap race and finished with a two minute lead over Duncan Madin but once again David Frary was back in fifth place and again on handicap this was good enough to give him yet another win by a thirty second margin.

Jordan Rumsby was the early leader in the Laser Class but on the second round he was passed by Steve Cole who went on to win from Alan Cone who had moved up from fourth.

Best race of the day was the second Squib class. Bryan Riley and Owen Delany pulled out a long lead and had a very close race. On the final round Owen took the lead on the last beat but promptly lost if on the final run as they finished with only a few feet separating them.

And Richard Dell and Jim Tubby had a really close race for third place and at the finish Jim was catching up fast but just failed to get his nose in front and the result was given as a tie.

It is with great sadness that I have to report the death of long time Club treasurer Charles Longley. Charles served the Club with great diligence for twenty one years and will be sadly missed and condolences go to his wife Sylvia and family.
