Saturday was a journey into the unknown with our first visit to Yaxley and what greeted us was a real challenge both in terms of opposition and weather conditions.

We started the game slowly and failed to take advantage of having the strong wind at our back and although we controlled the game in terms of possession we were not really creating clear cut chances, however we were still shocked to go behind from our host's first visit into our box due to some very slack defending.

This sparked us into life and we scored a deserved equaliser just before the break when great run and cross from Nathan Stone ended with a simple finish for Paul Highfield.

The second half was more of an end to end affair with us having to come back twice with goals from Stone and Louis Blois and again a similar theme to the goals from Yaxley being our uncharacteristic lapses of concentration in defence.

However, in coming back from behind twice to take the game to extra time, the lads demonstrated great desire and belief.

When we took the lead in extra time, through a fantastic Jamie Stokeld strike, it looked like we had done enough to win the game especially when we looked to have scored a perfectly good goal through Allicion Blake, however this was ruled out for offside and our hosts then scored the equaliser which took the game to Walmer road on Wednesday night. MoM: Allicion Blake.

The game on Wednesday had Yaxley making the long journey, arriving late and negotiating a delayed kick-off with the officials, however this still did not prevent us from starting at a very high pace and taking the lead early on through a Justin Fox penalty after some great approach work from Chris Henderson.

Our visitors slowly got themselves back intro the game through some very direct approach play, coupled with some very robust tackling which for a short spell began to unsettle us.

They equalised from their first visit into our box and it looked like it was going to be a repeat of Saturday, however Blake and Henderson combined to score an excellent goal to take us in a half-time with a slender lead.

Looking at the first 45 minutes it was clear that Yaxley had come to unsettle us and at times there tackling was bordering on being very crude. This became more evident in the second half as they were reduced to nine men after two pretty unsavory incidents.

This was however, after we had taken a 3-1 lead through Stone and it seemed that this was what sent the Yaxley players out of control.

We ran out comfortable 5-1 winners and can now look forward to a home tie against Dereham in the next round. MoM: Justin Fox.

We did however have casualties on the night with Allicion limping off at half-time through a strong challenge and Lois suffering a repeat of his calf problem.

So we will review this over the next couple of days and hope our physios can get them both in shape for Ely on Saturday - a game we need to win to try and stay in touch with the top half of the table.
