The teenager has qualified for the final of the 2009 Ronacrete People's Open Golf Championship, which will be played at the Turnberry course - just weeks after the Open championship.

Following in the footsteps of the likes of Open champion Padraig Harrington and world number one Tiger Woods and British talent like Rory McElroy.

The Rookery Park star emerged as one of just three qualifiers from the Greater London Qualifying Event at the Hampton Court Palace Golf Club in Surrey.

Now he plans to not only to practice as hard as he can for the next couple of months, but also to study the Turnberry course

“It's going to be great to see what it's like playing at Turnberry,' said Soanes

“Although I expect the competition to be pretty tough.”

Soanes took up golf when he was only nine-years-old and now, at 19, plays off a handicap of two.

He scored an excellent total of 38 points in his round at Hampton Court to qualify with two other competitors for the People's Open Golf Championship final. Players aged from 19 to 71 matched their skills on the spectacular Surrey course and Soanes, together with two other qualifiers, now get ready for the final at Turnberry on September 23.

The People's Open Golf Tournament is regarded by many as the UK's premier tournament for amateur golfers.

It is the only tournament of its kind to give amateur golfers a chance to realise what could be an impossible dream by following in the spike marks of some of the game's greatest heroes by competing for a place in the final held on the course where the Open Championship itself is held each year.
