Southwold RFC’s Boxing Day charity match raises over £1,000

Southwold RFC's Boxing Day match raised the impressive total of £1,031.26 for Leukaemia Research.
For over 30 years now the club have been organising a charity match on The Common to remember ex-player Glyn Alexander, and this was the first time the total raised reached four figures.
The players entertained spectators to a festival rugby ably refereed by Tim Passmore.
The club are grateful to those who bought in food for the players' post-match feast. Also thanks go to all the people who donated prizes for the raffle and post match games (Southwold Tesco Store, Greene King and club members) while Mike Osbourne auctioned off a rugby ball donated by Rob Temple.
Meanwhile Southwold Under-21s had a competitive fixture at Woodbridge, eventually coming away with a 24-19 victory.

Woodbridge were the first to get points on the board after choosing to kick a penalty and they added another 10 minutes later.
Southwold's backline, who ran freely at Ipswich, were expertly closed down throughout the match but towards the end of the half a foray up the centre, a blindside call from Callum and some quick hands allowed Ollie to find the gap. With Josh's conversion the score was 7-6 at the break.

Woodbridge regained the lead with another penalty but sustained pressure from the visiting forwards provided the opportunity for Ben to split the defence after a switch with Josh and dot down under the posts. Josh's conversion put Southwold back in the lead at 14-9.
The game continued to ebb and flow with nothing between the two teams until Woodbridge took the initiative and ran in two unconverted tries out wide.
Zak then stepped forward to level the scores with a great break and a step to evade the fullback and the score was 19-19 with five minutes left.
The last few minutes was nerve racking but Callum clinched the win a blindside break five metres out and crashed over the line.
Southwold resume their London Three Eastern Counties campaign tomorrow with a trip to Wymondham. They start the year second in the table, behind long-term rivals Stowmarket only on points difference.
Meanwhile struggling Lowestoft & Yarmouth continue their search of a first win of the season at home to Ely.
