Norfolk League Division Three morning leaders Kirkley Sports made the journey to Cromer under cloudy and damp conditions on Saturday and after winning the toss and inviting the home team to bat they were soon chasing leather to all parts of the small ground.

Opening bowlers Holmes and Bessey were having no luck as edges flew to the boundaries and mistimed drives dropped into open spaces as the scoreboard ticked up. Cromer openers Barrett and Wright, who was on loan from the 1st XI, both sensing it was their day went on the attack and brought the 50 up in the 10th over.

Cross replaced Holmes and with the runs still flowing he finally clean bowled Barrett for 34 with the score on 77.

Cross had to stop bowling soon after having suffered a reoccurrence of a chest injury.

Muirhead and Atkinson took over the bowling duties and both should have had wickets with their first balls as Muirhead had Gravelling caught by Atkinson only for it to be called a no ball for height.

However, with his first ball Atkinson did strike by having Wright caught in the covers by Bessey for 35.

With the 100 coming up in the 20th over the rate did slow for a period

as Gravelling and Regis got themselves in.

As the rate increased again, with some generous Sports' fielding and loose bowling, Muirhead had Gravelling (29) caught at square leg by Read.

However this brought Dickens to the wicket and from then until

the end of the match it was the Dickens and Regis show as both went on to score 40s at a rapid rate before destroying the Sports' batting

line up.

Eventually both were clean bowled by Atkinson, who also had Van Greuning (5) trapped lbw.

With Bessey picking up the wickets of Green (3) and Craske (4) in the last over of the innings, Cromer finished with 234-8 off 45 overs.

Atkinson was the pick of the Sports bowlers with 4-33.

In reply, Parker and Knights made a steady start adding 20 for the first wicket before both were bowled in quick succession by Regis for nine and seven respectively.

Bessey and Tuttle steadied the ship and with some excellent shots brought the 50 up in the 15th over.

Change bowlers Craske and Dickens both struggled early on with accuracy but this, for Dickens, was the calm before the storm as in an amazing spell he took 6-11 in 6 overs and finished with overall figures of

7-40.

Taylor had Laws (11) caught by Regis in the deep before Dickens took over.

Bessey was caught by Wright for 16, Tuttle (24) was bowled, Carroll (0) met the same fate as did Atkinson (0), Holmes with some lusty hits he made 21 before he had his furniture removed.

With a batting point at 160 looming the tail were entrusted with the job, Muirhead hit two fours but in going for a third was caught by Wright and last man Read (1) was clean bowled leaving Sports all out for 154.

Cross was left stranded 19 not out.

A comprehensive defeat for Sports' who still remain in second and must get themselves back on track next week versus Norwich Union.

Kirkley Sports remain indebted to Glen and Ritchi High at the Ole Frank PH for their continued sponsorship.
