SUFFOLK'S U18 team - featuring three players from the Lowestoft area - have been crowned as national county youth champions once more.

Andy Gould's side - who have reached the FA County Youth Cup final three times in four seasons - defeated Cambridgeshire 2-1 in a tense encounter at Portman Road.

Victory ensured the Suffolk side won a trophy they had last collected in 2005, as Kirkley and Pakefield's Chris Henderson and Scott Manning and Lowestoft's Dale Smith celebrated with their county teammates.

Suffolk took a second-minute lead when Luke Read scored in off the post followed by a second goal by Ben Garnham, who netted from 18 yards.

Adam Marriot, in space, pulled a goal back for Cambridgeshire. But soon afterwards, in the 18th minute Garnham hit the crossbar and K&P's Chris Henderson brought out an excellent save by the Cambridgeshire keeper in the 35th minute.

In the second half Suffolk had their keeper Tom Rees to thank. He was in outstanding form as he saved them countless times with stops of the highest standard.

The closest the home side came to a goal was when Henderson was scythed down from behind but the referee deemed it was no penalty, as Suffolk held on to become national champions once more.
