AFTER the first full week of matches, the Waveney Tables have taken an early but narrow lead in group three of the Lowestoft Table Tennis League Cup.

Wally Ladmore led the way for the Tables converting each of his three set thrillers into winning points in the final set.

Tables eventually won 6-3 against the Misfits with new-boy Jeff Drayton notching up a win in his maiden match for the Misfits.

With Terminators only managing a 5-4 win against a short-handed Gorleston Conservatives and the similarly close Sidewaves-Merlins match reported last week, Tables now lead this group by the slimmest of margins.

In group two the Hits overpowered the Kites with the combined efforts of Mick Bayfield and Martin Gregory.

The pair collected maximum points from their games and six for their team.

Meanwhile in group one John Smith helped the Beacons cage the Critters at Mill Lane, taking all three of his games, with only Graham Lawson preventing a Beacons pasting.

And the Dominators made the most of an under-resourced Monsters team stealing away six of the nine points available but David Boatman held up the Monsters pride by winning all of his games.
