Three-goal blast just before half time rocks Waveney

Waveney lost for the first time in nine league matches as they ended up well beaten by title favourites Spixworth.
On Saturday opponents Spixworth were always going to prove a stern test.
Spixworth, along with Harleston, are very strong and have an abundance of quality players that have played at a high level and are destined for a higher level of football. These are the games that Waveney relishes and certainly were not approaching in a despondent mood.
The early running came from Spixworth as they showed their early intentions with several good attacks. Some good defending from a resolute back four of Hammersley, Tacon, Grigg and Wilson thwarted Spixworth.
After 15 minutes Waveney settled and Shepherd, as a lone striker, was tripped in the box. Ryan Bloomfield, as he did last week, coolly fired home.
Spixworth came roaring back and Bergin made a couple of saves as Jarvis, Chong and Burgess worked tirelessly to fend off the opponents. As the game approached half time, disaster struck. Spixworth’s Cook found space on the left and managed to turn home a shot as he beat two Waveney markers to score from a difficult angle.
A minute later Spixworth took the lead as Easton pounced on more static defending. Spixworth added a third as Cook had too much power and desire as he outmuscled two defenders to head home as Spixworth totally turned things around.
After the break Waveney showed character. Chances were hard to come by and although Adam King looked lively and Fletcher and Langdale went on and showed great promise, Waveney did not have enough to trouble their opponents who grabbed a fourth through Page.
Waveney remain fourth in a very tough league and with Spixworth and Harleston clearly on a higher level.
Next up is a third meeting with Blofield after a draw and a penalty shoot-out win earlier in the season. Hopefully Waveney will have Bradley Hough and George Barber back. Ivy House man of the match was Sam Shepherd.
Team: Bergin, Grigg, Wilson, Hammersley, Tacon, Jarvis, Burgess (Fletcher), Chong (King), Shepherd, Carinhas (Langdale), Bloomfield.
