Thurlton trio win big bowls tournament at Kessingland

Kessingland’s 17th Early Dawn Windows and Conservatories Open Bowls Triples Tournament was held last Saturday.

A total of 78 bowlers played 30 ends over three sessions to decide who would contest the final four positions.

In the play-off for third and fourth positions Joy and Trevor Squires (Hales) with Alan Buck (Oulton Broad) had a comfortable 12-4 win over Mike Salmon, Leon Rappensburger and Christine Daniels (Kessingland).

The play-off for first and second positions between Terry White, Mike Topping and Craig Parfitt (Thurlton) and Ken and Marjorie Reynolds with Russell Garrod (Lowestoft Rail) went to the Thurlton trio 12-9.

Chairman Ken Porter presented the prizes and thanked tournament organiser Neville Batley and Early Dawn.

In the Sunshine League Kessingland Red lost 6-1 to Earsham while Kessingland Blue lost 6-0 to Lowestoft Rail Navy to put their league survival in doubt.

Railway Gold visited Kensington Gardens in the Sunshine League but found the green not to their liking with only one rink winning (G and T Harvey, R Garrod 23-15). Overall Gold lost 1-5 (63-51).

Railway Gold then entertained Sole Bay and all rinks performed well, completing a clean sweep of victories winning match 6-0, 71-50 (best rinks D and C Moores, B Riches 24-13, P Jarvis, G Rose, P Curtis 27-19.

Meanwhile the club, based on Carlton Road in Lowestoft, is hosting a beginners’ learning session, which starts on Saturday, September 30. Sunday coaching is also available by arrangement. This will continue until April 2018. Sessions run between 10am and noon.

Football: Raw Soccer, the community indoor football pitch, is the only purpose built indoor 3G pitch in Suffolk. Based on Pinbush Road, on the South Lowestoft Industrial Estate, Raw Soccer launch their inclusive football programme on Tuesday – as ‘A’ Ball kicks off at 4pm.
