CELEBRATING a Top hat-trick, a Lowestoft-based racehorse owner was all smiles this week.

Sharing its name with a south Norfolk village, a three-year-old horse called Topcroft has excelled this past month.

Owned by Valerie Franklin, from Lowestoft, and trained by Derek Shaw at Sproxton near Melton Mowbray, Topcroft has roared to three amazing runaway victories in three successive races in a row in December, scooping more than £6,000 in prize money to boot.

The horse won in consecutive weeks at Kempton by six lengths and five lengths, and then completed a superb hat-trick with another win at Southwell last Thursday.

And a north Suffolk bookmaker this week hailed the achievements as a one-off. “I doubt if this has ever been achieved by a Lowestoft owner before,” Martyn Spore, owner of Premier Racing Services, told The Journal.
