It appeared as though it would be a fruitless trip when the hosts edged ahead late on but Max Wall popped up with an equaliser in injury-ime to extend the Royals' impressive run.

They have now suffered just two defeats in 15 games, with an impressive haul of 29 points seeing them move up to 12th in the table.

Played on a very bumpy surface the Royals had to make one change. Tarren Grint was ruled out with a shoulder injury with Wall moving back and Lee Will starting. The away team also had Kyle Baker back on the substitute's bench after a spell out following a bout of appendicitis.

The Royals started quickly with two early corners but then the home team responded it what was a very even match.

But it was Long Melford who took the lead on 15 minutes through centre forward Steve Adams. Play then swayed end to end with Kirkley & Pakefield getting a deserved equaliser through Kyle Haylock on 41 minutes.

Baker made his entrance on the hour mark, replacing Lee Will, and the game remained very closely contested, with chances at both ends.

The home team were awarded a free-kick some 20 yards out in the 86h minute and Scott Sloots' shot gave Adam Rix in the away goal no chance for what looked a 2-1 winning lead.

But in the 92nd minute Wall produced a screamer from over 20 yards out that rocketed past the keeper for a much-deserved leveller, with both teams fairly pleased with a 2-2 scoreline in what was a closely-fought game in trying conditions.

Kirkley and Pakefield Reserves gained three welcome points on Saturday after beating Hindringham 2-1 at Walmer Road with goals from Jack Jenner and Bradley Carroll to leap above their opponents in the table. They are six points clear of the relegation zone going into the festive break.

The A team had a 5-0 win over second bottom Hearts of Oak at Dip Farm and on the TLL 3G Arena the B team beat Crusaders 4-2.
