Warren School athletes shine at Warwick championships

TWO students from the Warren School, in Lowestoft, were all smiles after competing in the DSE national athletics championships at the University of Warwick in Coventry last weekend.

The youngs athletes, representing the team from the eastern region, impressed in the midst of strong competition.

Jamie Fletcher ran an awesome 800m storming across the finish line to take the gold in a time of 2m 33s.

His proud PE teacher Sue Allen said: “This was a PB by five seconds!”

Jamie added it was “the race of his life,” and he followed this up by throwing 6m 33cm in the shot putt to come fifth overall.

Chelsea Wherry came fourth in the 100m in 17.0 secs in a very strong field.

Mrs Allen said: “She is just 16 and was racing against U18s so has two more years in this age group. Both athletes were amazing and gave 100pc effort in their events and when supporting other members of the team. We are very proud of them at Warren School and are already looking forward to next year’s athletics programme.”
