Waveney produced a five star display at Saturn Close to see off a Mattishall team managed by former Norwich City star Robert Fleck.

The hosts made one change to last week’s starting 11 that had played so well to beat St Andrews, Ritchi High replacing captain Ryan Bloomfield who was celebrating the birth of son Percy.

Waveney got off to an excellent start with a goal on five minutes. Bradley Hough showed good strength to hold of his man and produce a fine left foot finish past the keeper from just outside the box.

They extended the lead on 12 minutes as fine work from Ant Etheridge down the right saw him square the ball for a tap-in for Sam Shepherd. Waveney lost Sam Allen to injury on 25 minutes and he was replaced by Ryan Davies who was making his first appearance.

With the league’s leading goalscorer Xavier Huckle being kept quiet by Daniel Tacon and High Waveney began the second half well. And it was no surprise when the lead was extended on 60 minutes as a pin-point delivery from Tacon was emphatically headed home at the back post by centre back partner High.

The home side nearly added a fourth as a fine turn and left foot shot from Etheridge was brilliantly turned away by the keeper.

He could do nothing on 66 minutes as Waveney made it 4-0, Daniel Tacon superbly firing home a free-kick from 25 yards out that nestled in the bottom left corner of the net.

Waveney brought on Tom Mawford and Michael Tacon for the final quarter of the game as they replaced Hough and Etheridge.

A fine team goal completed the scoring on 83 minutes. Adam Taylor starting the move before Mawford and Jarvis exchanged passes. As Mawford raced clear on goal he calmly slotted past the keeper with a right foot shot for his fifth goal of the season.

It was a good team display with the back four of Taylor, Peek, High and Tacon in top form securing a second clean sheet in a row. Man-of-the-match: Daniel Tacon.

Waveney are away to bottom side Reepham Town tomorrow (2pm).

Waveney: Bergin, Peek, Taylor, High, Daniel Tacon, Allen (Davies 25), Jarvis, Burgess, Etheridge (Mawford 68), Hough (Michael Tacon 75), Shepherd.
