A Waveney planner stormed to victory at Norwich Triathlon to become regional champion.

The annual event, hosted by Norwich-based triathlon club Tri-Anglia, was held on Sunday at Whitlingham County Park, just outside Norwich.

The day’s racing got under way with the Olympic distance event which saw race winner Tri-Anglia’s Iain Robertson complete the 1,500m swim, 39k bike and 11k course in two hours and four minutes – six minutes ahead of Born2Tri’s Steve Norris after a storming bike and run leg.

The win saw Robertson, who works at Waveney District Council’s Lowestoft offices as an area planning officer, also become Eastern Region Champion.

Robertson, who will be competing at the World Duathlon Championships in Nancy, France, in September, said: “I have been in good form this season, but was very surprised to have a lead off the bike and then to extend it during the run.

“This is my first win at Olympic distance and to become Eastern Region Champion as well is great.”
